Birdfy not charging?
Test the camera on wired power before judging the solar panel.
The quick answer
Separate three questions: does the camera charge from USB, does the solar panel contribute power, and is the app receiving an updated reading? Start with a controlled wired test.
Applies to Birdfy feeder cameras. The indicator example applies to Feeder 2 / Cam 2 and Cam 2 Pro; other models use their own charging instructions.
Establish a wired baseline
Record the exact camera model and its current battery reading. Use the cable and adapter specification in that model's manual. Birdfy lists different adapter requirements across its range, so there is no single adapter recommendation for every feeder.
Its general charging troubleshooting specifies an ambient charging range of 32–104°F (0–40°C). Bring the camera into suitable conditions before comparing results.
As a diagnostic method, disconnect the solar accessory and test wired power on its own. Note the start time and status light, then leave the setup unchanged for the manual's recommended duration.

Read the correct model's indicator
For the Feeder 2 Series, the charging guide describes a steady red light during charging and no light once full. It estimates about ten hours from a wall adapter and longer from a computer USB port.
This example does not establish the light colors or charging time for another Birdfy camera. Keep the manual for your actual model open beside the test. A different light pattern is a reason to check the product instructions before diagnosing a fault.

If the wired test fails
- Check whether the connector is fully seated and whether the port or cable has visible damage.
- Compare the adapter's printed output with the manual. Do not infer compatibility from the connector shape alone.
- Repeat the same test with a known working compatible cable and adapter, changing one component at a time.
- Write down whether the camera reacts physically and whether the app is online. Treat those as separate observations.
If the app is offline, its percentage may be stale. Birdfy's FAQ explicitly distinguishes a device charging physically from a device able to send its status to the server.

If USB works but solar does not
Keep the camera's successful wired test in your notes. Check the solar connection and place the panel in direct sunlight, rather than judging it in shade or overcast conditions. Birdfy's solar troubleshooting also applies the charging-temperature check.
Use a simple comparison log: starting percentage, time, weather, panel position and camera activity. Repeat under similar conditions without changing recording settings at the same time. This is a way to isolate the symptom, not a promise that the panel will reach 100%.
If the battery percentage is already high, charging may pause normally. Feeder 2 Series guidance describes automatic charging protection and resumption below the full-charge range.

Verify and report the result
Confirm that the camera powers on, reconnects and can open live view after the test. If wired charging succeeds, report the remaining problem as solar charging rather than a completely unresponsive camera.
If neither test works, contact official Birdfy support with the model, adapter output, cable details, temperature, test duration, light behavior and app screenshots. For a responsive camera with a frozen feed, use the scoped reboot guide. Do not use repeated resets as a substitute for checking the power source.
